Guidelines for Authors

Call for Manuscripts

Catalyst for Change is an educational journal supported by the National School Study Council. The Catalyst is a well-established, national journal that has been published consistently since 1970. It has a circulation of more than 1500 educators and goes to approximately 90 libraries across the country. Its primary audience is school leaders including superintendents, principals, central office personnel, teachers, and professors who have an interest in school practices, school partnerships, and school improvement. The content emphasis has been primarily focused on research articles that pertain to issues that impact the quality of K-12 schools.  The journal is interested in publishing original scholarship including research reports, essays, and book reviews. All manuscripts for Catalyst are peer reviewed.

When submitting your work for this publication, include the title for your manuscript, a two hundred and fifty word abstract, and a one hundred word bio to be included in the publication.


Guidelines for Publication

Educators are encouraged to submit articles to Catalyst for Change, which is a non-profit educational journal and is the official publication of the National School Development Council. Catalyst for Change is published two times per year. Manuscripts submitted should meet the following requirements:

  1. All articles should be written to provide educators with educational initiatives that have been successful in your setting. Manuscripts may include research papers, technical reports, essays, book reviews, and descriptive studies that inform educational practice. Manuscripts describing successful change initiatives are particularly welcome.

  2. Manuscripts should be submitted by conventional mail (2 copies) or electronically using Microsoft Word. They should follow the guidelines in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) and should range from 1000 to 3000 words excluding references. Use APA format for references and in text citations.

  3. Note: Authors can anticipate at least a 6-month time span for initial review of manuscripts to publication.

  4. Authors should include a cover page with their names, titles, institutions, mailing address, daytime phone number, fax number, and a brief bio of no more than 100 words.

  5. A hard copy of the article must be submitted as well as an electronic version.
