Pennsylvania Teacher Certification Reform David Monk and the deans of education at two other state-funded universities co-authored a letter to state legislators underscoring the importance of principles that are driving the reform. $1.8 Million Grant to Improve Writing Skills in Students with Behavior Disorders Linda Mason and Rick Kubina are heading up the study in collaboration with several high schools throughout Pennsylvania. Benefits of More Homework Vary Across Nations, Grades Gerald LeTendre co-authored a study showing that the benefits of heavier homework loads aimed to boost student test scores may vary widely. Dean Monk Authors Article on Education Policy in Rural Areas Monk focuses on the challenges involved in recruiting and retaining qualified educators in rural schools. New Graduate Rankings Released by U.S. News & World Report Six of our graduate programs are ranked in the top 10, including a first-place, a second-place, and a third-place spot. New Research Center for Leadership in American Indian Education The new center is expected to serve as a clearinghouse on American Indian/Alaska Native education research, policy, and practice. College Receives Two Alumni Gifts Totaling $300,000 The L. Jean Spagnolo Scholarship and the Joan and David Cotterill Dean's Excellence Fund will support scholarships and program initiatives.

| Courses and Seminars for Alumni and Friends Various Penn State campuses are offering a multitude of seminars and courses, many approved for Act 48 credit. Choose from Saturday seminars, online seminars and courses, and on-campus summer and evening courses.

with the presenters and learn about timely issues in the interest of education,

Activities Through CSATS provides support to experienced teachers for programs that are science-related and science-driven. For example, the Center can assist teachers in registering for Act 48 credit, finding a summer course, or shaping master's degree studies.
