Research Project Joins Graduate Students with Parents and Staff of Literacy Program Graduate students in Esther Prins' Adult Literacy course examined how parents benefited in an Even Start parents council. University of Tokyo Delegation Learns about Penn State First-Year Student Experiences The Japanese visitors chose two destinations, Penn State and Harvard, because of the successful first-year programs at the two institutions. Chris Mattise Invited to Opening of Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy in South Africa Mattise has done extensive work in creating Hurt-Free Schools, an effective anti-bullying and character development program. Center for the Study of Free Institutions and Civic Education Formed David Saxe is director of the new Center, which will focus on Western Civilization, free institutions, and American history. Kenneth Strike Joins Penn State as Visiting Waterbury Scholar Strike’s appointment, through June 2008, is part of continuing efforts to enhance Penn State’s Secondary Education program. Don Heller Testifies Before House Appropriations Subcommittee The hearing was part of the subcommittee's agenda focusing on America’s Workers and Education for the 21st Century. Three College of Education Programs Ranked #2 in the Nation The programs in Counselor Education, Ed Leadership, and Counseling Psychology are ranked highly in terms of faculty productivity in the new Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index. New Faculty Appointments Aimed at Elevating Teacher Preparation Programs Greg Kelly will serve as the next head of the Curriculum & Instruction Department, and Jim Nolan is the next professor-in-charge of Field Experiences and Partnerships. Student Teachers Put Books in Hands of City Kids The first student teaching class at Penn State Berks developed a community service project for their host schools. |

Activities Through CSATS provides support to experienced teachers for programs that are science-related and science-driven. For example, the Center can assist teachers in registering for Act 48 credit, finding a summer course, or shaping master's degree studies.
