USA RANKS ONLY 18th IN SCHOOL VIOLENCE RATES

In the internationally acclaimed documentary, "Bowling for Columbine," director and star Michael Moore portrays the United States as the most violent of the developed nations. However, a study by Penn State education faculty says the United States' rate is not among the highest in the world.

SCHOOLS ADOPTING MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES SHOW MULTIPLE IMPROVEMENTS

In a study of schools that have adopted Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences (MI) theory, Penn State researchers found that the schools associate the theory with a variety of improvements, including test score gains.

TEST SCORES ARE HIGHER FOR CHILDREN WITH CARING, INDEPENDENT PARENTS

Children whose parents are successful in both intimacy and independence within the family structure have higher standardized achievement scores than those whose parents are less successful in these areas, according to research by Elizabeth Skowron.

COLLABORATIVE LEARNING BENEFITS DIVERSITY/INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

Collaborative learning, which calls for students to work on projects in small groups rather than learning in a traditional instructor-lecture format, increases college students’ interpersonal skills and openness to diversity.
