RISING TUITIONS HAVE SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS ON LOW-INCOME ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION

Nationally-known higher education access expert Donald Heller said in a recent study that the impact of governmental policies aimed at reducing tuition costs for lower-income families is limited and that other costs (such as housing) hamper enrollment.

STUDENT ADVOCATES/SCHOOL BOARDS SHOULD AGREE ON CORE VALUES PRIOR TO NEGOTIATING CHANGES

Advocates for students and parents can achieve their best results in dealings with school districts if they first agree on non-negotiable core values, then compromise, according to a Penn State expert.

ORAL WORD SEGMENTATION IMPORTANT FOR YOUNG READERS

According to recent Penn State research, elementary school students with learning disabilities in reading can learn to spell at 100 percent accuracy—even after enduring several years of failure—if they exploit a combined recipe of two specific learning behaviors.
