Curriculum and Instruction
Curriculum and Instruction (C I) offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and many options for teacher certification.
Undergraduate Degrees
The department offers undergraduate degrees for students interested in teaching at the precollege level. Our graduates typically qualify for Instructional I teaching certificates in:
- Early Childhood Education
- Elementary Education
- English/Communication
- Languages: French, German, Latin, Russian, or Spanish
- Mathematics
- Sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Space Science, Environmental Education, General Science, or Physics
- Social Studies
Graduate Degrees
The department offers the M.Ed., M.S., and Ph.D., with emphases in six areas:
- Curriculum and Supervision
- Early Childhood Education
- Elementary Education
- Language, Culture & Society (Language & Literacy Education, Social Studies Education, World Languages Education)
- Mathematics Education
- Science Education

The mission of C&I is to prepare exemplary teachers, teacher educators, and educational researchers in curriculum, instruction, supervision, and related areas. We seek to promote a thriving intellectual community, recognized for high quality research and scholarly contributions; exemplary undergraduate and graduate teaching; and professional service and leadership.
