Professor David Saxe specializes in heritage education and is a national expert on history standards. He serves as the Director of the Heritage Education Initiative. Dr. Saxe has published widely on teaching American history. Recently he completed a teaching/research project in Germany with his Fulbright at the University of Regensburg. His current interests include heritage projects about the French and Indian War, the Pennsylvania Frontier in colonial times, and the American Revolution. Dr. Saxe holds certifications in Heritage Interpretation from the National Association for Interpretation (Certified Interpretative Trainer/Certified Interpretative Guide) and the National Park Service. As an interpretation trainer, Professor Saxe focuses on French and Indian War and Revolutionary War characters. Over the past decade Dr. Saxe has addressed the lack of American history on panels hosted by Lynne Cheney at the American Enterprise Institute, shared the podium with U.S. former Assistant Secretary of Education, Eugene Hickok and former Reagan Attorney General Edwin Meese at the Heritage Foundation and addressed U.S. Senate for the James Madison Foundation. Professor Saxe has appeared on Fox's The O'Reilly Factor, PBS' Frontline and ABC's Sam Donaldson Show as well as being sought out to discuss the state of American history for the New York Times, Washington Times among other major newspapers. As George W. Bush prepared his run for the presidency, then Governor Bush served as Professor Saxe’s invited speaker when Dr. Saxe reported his findings to the nation on American history standards at the Smithsonian Castle. Dr. Saxe worked for both the Clinton and Bush administrations respectively on the new immigration-citizenship test. As a ten-year Member of the Pennsylvania State Board of Education, Professor Saxe was instrumental in the preparation of the Pennsylvania State education standards. Dr. Saxe is a Salvatori Fellow with the Heritage Foundation. He received his preparat! ion in A merican history at Illinois State University (Bachelor’s Degree) and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (AM), and completed his history/citizenship education training at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (PhD). Professor Saxe’s notable books include: Land and Liberty I: A Chronology of Traditional American History and Land and Liberty II: The Basics of Traditional American History.
