Graduate Studies in C & I

The faculty of Curriculum and Instruction believes in the intimate connection between knowledge and democracy. Its teaching, research, and outreach are directed toward the creation, development, and maintenance of open and diverse educational projects dedicated to overcoming ignorance and securing freedom for all.

Toward that end, the faculty develops new knowledge about learning, teaching, and knowing, and shares that knowledge with the widest variety of audiences. Faculty members work independently and collaboratively to design and implement research, involving multiple and diverse disciplines, voices, perspectives and practices. They direct graduate programs for promising scholars who intend to acquire theories, principles, and practices of such research in order to join this and other research communities. They participate in the continuous debates about the definitions, value and consequences of education research.

The faculty engages in the professional development of teachers through the Master’s in Education (M.Ed.) degree program, offering courses, providing purposeful experiences, sponsoring events, and designing technologies in a wide variety of formats and emphasis areas. Ranked among the top Curriculum & Instruction graduate programs in the U.S., the Department offers the time, space and expertise for teachers to develop their knowledge and pedagogy in order to bring the latest theory and research into practice.
