Pat Hinchey holds a doctorate from Teachers College, Columbia University. At Penn State, she has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in curriculum and instruction as well as educational theory and policy. Her many publications take a critical perspective on a variety of topics from a critical perspective; her books include an award-winning introduction to critical theory, a critical analysis of graduate education, and an action research primer. Most recently, her review of research on teacher assessment received widespread attention. Her current work includes a co-authored text on working productively with English Language Learners in an inclusive environment, slated for publication in 2013, and a detailed text on critical action research, slated for publication in 2014. She serves as research editor for the journal The Clearing House, and she is a Fellow at the National Education Policy Center at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
