C&I: Early Childhood Education

Overview

An overview of the Early Childhood Education program at the Penn State College of Education.

Early Childhood Education

Early Childhood Education (ECE), as a multi-disciplinary area within the department, embraces the challenges of complexity, diversity, and multiple perspectives, and it has an inclusive, multicultural emphasis. ECE is devoted to educating persons for careers in basic and higher education in areas of research, scholarship, policy, and practice. The core knowledge includes child growth and development, environment, curriculum, and content planning and implementation, instruction and communication, assessment, professionalism and leadership, and families, communities and cultures. Diversity education includes working with minorities within the U.S. as well as internationally since many graduate students come from abroad, necessitating situating ECE in a global context.
