Recommended Science Courses for EK Ed Majors - SP 01

ALL EKED majors must complete at least 9 credits in natural sciences (GN) PRIOR to enrolling in SCIED 458 (DI Block) -- 3 credits each in biological, physical and earth sciences. The following science courses can be petitioned to fulfill this prerequisite. Each course was developed specifically for future educators.

ENT 313/315: Intro to Entomology & Teaching with Insects
** Can be petitioned to fulfill the GN biological science requirement. **

The purpose of the course is to assist future teachers in using insects to support children's science learning. Students in the course will have opportunities to engage in a scientific investigation, explore teaching resources for science, and teach science to children in a supportive setting.

ENGR 497F: Fundamentals of Sci, Tech & ENGR Design
** Can be petitioned to fulfill the GN physical science requirement. **

The purpose of this innovative course is to provide its participants with authentic experiences in engineering and physical science. As a result of these experiences, course participants will develop the competencies required to devise similar physical science experiences for use in their own classrooms. Course instructors will model appropriate teaching methods using materials readily available in most classrooms.
