LCS Faculty Interests in Children's Literature Studies, Children and Youth Culture
Faculty in LCS engage a broad range of interests in child and youth literature and culture. This focus encompasses studies in children’s literature from a number of perspectives. Faculty in this area engage girlhood studies, popular and consumer culture, multicultural literature, the arts and aesthetic modes of engagement. This work also includes attention to critical youth engagement, the modes by which youth take up civic engagement, especially within informal modes of a “civic education.”
Doctoral students in LCS join our efforts in child and youth literature and culture in a variety of ways. These include (but are not limited to) teaching courses in children’s literature; assisting faculty with journals, publications, and other research efforts; or participating in a cross-departmental research team that investigates the conditions in which youth take up civic engagement in a local elementary school.
