(Dis)Abilities

LCS Faculty Interests in (Dis)Abilities

Faculty in LCS engage a broad range of interests in questions of ability and disability. These include issues of labeling, positioning, opportunities for and perceptions of academic ability and success, the implications of sociocultural theory for the study of disability, and all sorts of critical work related to ability and disability within and beyond education.

Doctoral students in LCS join our efforts in the study of (dis)abilties in a variety of ways.  These include engagement with the Penn State Center for Disability Studies (http://disabilitystudies.psu.edu/), a cross-disciplinary center that develops research, educational programs, and public pedagogy related to frameworks for understanding disability.
