Graduate SCIED
Graduate Study in SCIED
We offer the M.S., M.Ed., and Ph.D. degrees. Graduate students who have previously earned undergraduate degrees in science fields have the option to pursue teaching certification as part of any of these degrees.
Students entering SCIED graduate degree options are admitted through the Department of Curriculum and Instruction graduate admissions process. Application deadline for SCIED Ph.D. emphasis area is December 15 with decisions being made by the end of February for fall-only admission. However, applications will be considered after this deadline with priority given to applications submitted by deadline.
Financial Aid
Financial support is provided through a variety of research and teaching opportunities. Masters and doctoral students can compete for fellowships and research and teaching assistantships. Most graduate assistantships cover the cost of graduate tuition and provide a monthly stipend as well.
Funded research projects provide opportunities for financial support through work in K-12 public schools, teaching professional development, and various science education initiatives at Penn State. Contact individual science education faculty members for more information on current opportunities. In addition, many science education students receive support from other departments and projects in others Colleges.
More information about graduate funding is available at the Penn State Graduate School.
Assignments of teaching and research assistantships are made after admission to the graduate program.
