Web Hosting Options

The following information will be helpful to any faculty member wondering about the needs associated with serving out grant related content, data and or reports using server-side hardware and software resources.
With the growth among the faculty regarding web hosting for their grant, research, scholarship, and outreach initiatives the following information may assist in identifying some of the options associated with the "hosting" process.
Web Site Guideleines - College of Education
Options:
1) Co-Location - http://aset.its.psu.edu/accounts/colocation.html (temporarily unavailable until 2009)

2) Personal Web Space - To activate your personal Web space, go to http://www.personal.psu.edu
a. Click the "Apply for Web space on www.personal.psu.edu” link.
b. Note: You must allow three business days for the space to be activated.
3) Virtual Machine Hosting - http://www.vmhost.psu.edu
Pricing - http://www.vmhost.psu.edu/service/section/pricing/
a. Purchase a virtual server
b. Purchase web hosting space
4) Setup your own Domain Name Service (DNS) Name and Web Service through a third party vendor.
Equipped with this knowledge, options and a bit of grant, research, scholarship, and outreach dollars I think our community can be well serviced and provisioned.
Last but not least please feel free to work with our Associate Dean and IT Manager, in the Education Technology Center. As time and schedules permit ETC personnel can be included in sponsored projects to facilitate technical assistance, support, design, and project development. Approval must be obtained after full project scope and planning have been discussed and negotiated.
