Student Advisory Forum

Information about the Dean's student advisory forum, a student group in the Penn State College of Education.

Student Advisory Forum in the College of Education

Purpose:

- To foster communication among students and their organizations and the faculty, staff, and administration of the College.
- To provide advice to the Dean about matters that are of concern to students

Structure:

Department Heads are invited by the Dean to nominate students to serve on the Forum. In addition, the president of the Education Student Council (ESC) and the College of Education student representative on the University Faculty Senate and the University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) are members of the Forum.
- One undergraduate student shall be identified from each of the following program areas: Elementary and Kindergarten Education, Rehabilitation Services, Secondary Education, Special Education, and Workforce Education and Development.
- One graduate student shall be identified from each of the following Departments: Counselor Education, Counseling Psychology, and Rehabilitation Services; Curriculum and Instruction; Education Policy Studies; Educational and School Psychology and Special Education; and Learning and Performance Systems.

The Forum shall meet periodically during the academic year and the meetings will be scheduled and organized by the Dean's Office.

History:

The Forum was created in 1999 to advise the Dean about the quality of student life in the College. The Forum was instrumental in designing the Arts-in-Education Initiative that provides free tickets to performing arts events to students, faculty, and staff in the College of Education. In addition, the Forum helped to design the student lounges that are located in the breezeways of the Chambers Building. The Forum's latest new activity involves participating in events the College organizes to help its alumni and friends understand and appreciate the importance of scholarship support for students and the enhancement of the College's fiscal base.
