Grievances

Grievances

The College's Office of Certification and Education Services (228 Chambers Building; 865-0488) is a listening post for student grievances. Advisers are always available to assist students with clarification of the issues, specifics on grievance procedures, applicable College or University policies, and referrals.

All grievances should be discussed first between the student and that individual or office closest to the cause of the grievance and with the student's adviser. If necessary, the student should consult next with the person responsible for the program area involved. If a solution has still not been found, the discussion may be continued with the appropriate department head. Finally, the student may still feel the need to present the unresolved grievance to the office of the associate/assistant dean for undergraduate studies of the college involved.

Allegations of Discrimination

The Pennsylvania State University's procedures whereby student allegations of discrimination in any authorized University activity or organization can be promptly reviewed and resolved are published and distributed to students in the Faculty Senate Policies for Students. These procedures are also readily available at all departmental/divisional offices and in the College's Office of Certification and Education Services (228 Chambers Building).

Allegations of Sexual Harassment

The Pennsylvania State University does not tolerate sexual harassment of its students, faculty members, and staff. Unwelcome sexual advances, requests, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature constitutes sexual harassment where submission to or rejection of such conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual's performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive educational environment.

An allegation of sexual harassment involving a member of the College of Education should be reported to the appropriate contact person: Students - Dr. Kep Sones (865-0488); Faculty - Brandon Hunt (863-2408) Staff - Mr. Jerry Henry (865-2523).

Committee on Faculty and Student Concerns

Among this College committee's concerns are, "Issues related to academic admission standards, graduation requirements, scholarships and honors, and other matters as they are related to student life." Specific information on the activities of this committee and a list of current faculty and student members is available from the Office of Certification and Education Services located in 228 Chambers Building (865-0488).

Committee on Grade Adjudication

Disagreements over grades between an instructor and a student follow a process outlined in Faculty Senate Policy G-10 (see http://www.psu.edu/ufs/policies) or stop at 274 Chambers Building, 814-865-2524.
