Appointment Conditions

This position is classified as a Fixed-Term II instructor at Penn State on an as needed basis by semester.  In return for part-time employment, the instructor will receive compensation, which corresponds with the designated level of appointment, plus travel expense reimbursement as per University Policy.  Penn State has a strong commitment to the diversity of its workforce and encourages applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

The person(s) selected for this position will deliver evening instruction to adult learners within the Workforce Education and Development program pursuing Vocational Instructional II Certification in Central Pennsylvania.  Applicable courses of instruction would include:

• Assessment Techniques within Career and Technical Education;
• Career and Technical Programs and Facilities Management;
• Career and Technical Student Organizations;
• Conceptual and Legal Basis of Cooperative Education;
• Education for Work:  Trends and Issues;
• Integrated Career and Technical Curriculum Implementation;
• Operating Cooperative Education Programs;
• Special Needs Learners within Career and Technical Education;
• Vocational Guidance.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will:

• Possess advanced degree(s) within Workforce Education, Career and Technical Education, Vocational Education or closely related fields;
• Possess a Pennsylvania Vocational Instructional II Certificate or equivalent;
• Have taught or been an administrator in a vocational/technical school;
• Possess a valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Pennsylvania.

The College of Education

Department of Learning and Performance Systems (LPS)

The Department of Learning and Performance Systems [http://www.ed.psu.edu/educ/lps] includes three programs: Adult Education; Learning, Design, and Technology; and Workforce Education and Development. All three programs offer separate degrees, but students, faculty, and staff collaborate on teaching, research, and service.

The Workforce Education and Development Program

The mission of the Workforce Education and Development Program is to promote excellence, opportunity, and leadership among professionals in the workforce education and development field including, but not limited to, those employed in secondary or postsecondary education institutions, social services industries, employee groups, and private businesses.  The Career and Technical Education emphasis focuses upon preparing individuals for Pennsylvania licensure as teachers and administrators as well as research in the field.

Applicants must submit a letter of application outlining qualifications, curriculum vitae, copies of official graduate transcripts, and one recent example of a scholarly article.  Applicants should arrange for three academic letters of reference to be sent directly to the search committee.  These academic letters of reference should include names, office and email addresses, and phone numbers for follow-up contact.  Screening of applications will begin March 15, 2013, and will continue until a suitable candidate is found.
