Positions Available

Two open rank positions (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Education) in the Higher Education Program, with an appointment in the Center for the Study of Higher Education.  Specialization: open.

Beginning

Fall Semester, 2013

Appointment conditions

This is a tenure track, 36-week appointment with the possibility of supplementary summer appointments in research and/or teaching.  Full University benefits apply.  Penn State has a strong commitment to the diversity of its workforce and encourages applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses to students with interests in higher education;
  • Advise master's and doctoral students;
  • Perform nationally and internationally recognized research and scholarship in areas related to higher education;
  • Seek external support for research; and
  • Provide service to the University, profession, and community.

Required qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Higher Education or a relevant discipline, including but not limited to: sociology, political science, public theory, history, economics;
  • Evidence of a significant program of research, commensurate with rank;
  • Evidence of substantial success in extramural funding, commensurate with rank;
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching and advising including the use of information technology, commensurate with rank; and
  • Evidence of a commitment to working collegially, collaboratively, and with individuals from diverse backgrounds, commensurate with rank.

Desired qualifications

  • Expertise in college student affairs, assessment of teacher outcomes, organization and administration, teaching and learning, policy, curriculum, or faculty.  Although we will consider scholars from all areas relating to the study of higher education, we especially welcome applications from individuals possessing expertise in these areas.

The College of Education

The College of Education at Penn State was established in 1923 to deepen and extend knowledge about the formation and utilization of human capabilities. The Department of Education Policy Studies (EPS)

The Department of Education Policy Studies is home to 34 full-time faculty members whose work promotes equity and instills educational leaders with a broad K-16 mission that informs local, state, national, and international policy makers.  The Department consists of four graduate degree programs, three of which are currently ranked in the top 10 nationally by U.S. News & World Report.

The Higher Education Program

Penn State's Higher Education Program [http://www.ed.psu.edu/hied/], ranked first in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, prepares master's and doctoral students capable of researching, analyzing, and managing the critical issues and concerns facing post-secondary education in the United States and internationally.  The program also houses the on-line Institutional Research certificate program.

The Center for the Study of Higher Education

The Center for the Study of Higher Education (CSHE) is one of the nation's oldest and most well-respected research centers on post-secondary education [http://www.ed.psu.edu/cshe/].  Faculty in CSHE work collaboratively with colleagues throughout Penn State, those at other universities, and with governmental and non-governmental organizations in serving post-secondary education.
