Appointment Conditions

This position is classified as a 12-month Fixed-Term I Instructor at Penn State.  The appointment period will be for July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014.  A contract may be appointed annually based on funding availability.  Full University benefits apply.  Teachers may fulfill this position while on sabbatical from their schools.  Penn State has a strong commitment to the diversity of its workforce and encourages applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

Work individually and with a team of colleagues to provide field delivered and web-based professional development for teachers and administrators of Career and Technical Education (CTE) in Central Pennsylvania schools.  Develop, deliver, coordinate, and/or evaluate professional development activities on topics relevant to contemporary CTE, such as, but not limited to:  strategies of effective instruction, programs of study, increasing academic achievement of CTE students, basic skill instruction, standards for professional educators, serving students from special populations, or organizational change in schools.  Promote pre-service and in-service professional development for CTE teachers at meetings of professional associations.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will:

  • Have established goals toward the completion of a degree or the obtainment of a professional certificate in CTE instruction or administration;
  • Have conducted professional development or training of educators;
  • Be competent in at least one topic relevant to contemporary CTE (such as those listed under "Responsibilities");
  • Enroll in full-time undergraduate or graduate study in Workforce Education & Development;
  • Possess a valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Pennsylvania.

Desired Qualifications

The successful candidate will:

  • Have work experience in industrial education/training or health occupation education;
  • Possess a Vocational Instructional II Certificate or equivalent.

The College of Education

Department of Learning and Performance Systems (LPS)

The Department of Learning and Performance Systems [http://www.ed.psu.edu/educ/lps] includes three programs:  Adult Education; Learning, Design, and Technology; and Workforce Education and Development.  All three programs offer separate degrees, but students, faculty, and staff collaborate on teaching, research, and service.

The Workforce Education and Development Program

The mission of the Workforce Education and Development Program is to promote excellence, opportunity, and leadership among professionals in the workforce education and development field including, but not limited to, those employed in secondary or postsecondary education institutions, social services industries, employee groups, and private businesses.  The Career and Technical Education emphasis focuses upon preparing individuals for Pennsylvania licensure as teachers and administrators as well as research in the field.

Applicants must submit a letter of application outlining qualifications, curriculum vitae, copies of official graduate transcripts if applicable, and one recent example of a scholarly article if available.  Applicants should arrange for three academic letters of reference to be sent directly to the search committee.  These academic letters of reference should include names, office and email addresses, and phone numbers for follow-up contact.  Screening of applications will begin April 15, 2013, and will continue until a suitable candidate is found.
