The Curriculum and Instruction Field Experience (CIFE) office of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction is seeking experienced educators for the position of field supervisor of pre-student teachers for the 2013-2014 academic year.  Penn State has a strong commitment to the diversity of its workforce and encourages applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities:

As an instructor for the course, CI495A: Clinical Application of Instruction--Early Childhood Education (grades K-4), the responsibilities for these positions include:  (1) observing up to 12 pre-student teachers each semester who are placed within a 70 mile radius of University Park; (2) conferring regularly with mentor classroom teachers; (3) assessing student performance in the schools as well as written assignments; (4) conducting three-way evaluation conferences between you, each pre-student teacher, and their classroom mentor teacher; and (5) assigning a final grade for the course.

Required Qualifications:

Qualifications for this position include 5 or more years of successful experience as either a certified elementary education teacher or school administrator.  The salary for this part-time position will range from $8000-$8500 academic year, depending on experience.  Travel mileage will be reimbursed for school visits.

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is home to 35 tenure track faculty members whose work makes significant contributions to the advancement of knowledge in educational theory and practice through research and scholarly activities.  The mission of the department is to prepare exemplary teachers, teacher educators, and educational researchers in a variety of emphasis areas, including Language and Literacy Education, Social Studies Education, Mathematics Education, Science Education, Early Childhood Education, Curriculum and Supervision, and World Languages Education.  Our graduate programs are recognized nationally for their high quality, and currently three are in the top 15 of their respective program rankings by U.S. News & World Reports.
