A collection of thoughts on the DEC by current members

  • The DEC is comprised of people from different walks of life who come together to discuss diversity issues honestly in a safe and open forum where we embrace each other's similarities and differences.
  • The DEC is a place where students and faculty can meet and speak about issues that they may not be comfortable talking about in class.
  • The DEC is a place of discussion and growth for those within the department free of negative consequences.
  • The DEC provides a forum for open dialogue about diversity issues and diversity concerns in the department.
  • The DEC is a safe place to discuss issues that we don't want to discuss in the classroom.
  • The DEC is a safe haven for disenfranchised voices.
  • The DEC is a safe place to get real about the diversity issues that we all struggle with in our lives.
  • The DEC is a place for everyone to feel welcome regardless of status.
