How to apply:
The process of applying for admission to graduate school at Penn State requires the following application materials, some of which are submitted to The Graduate School (items 1 and 2 below), and others that should be sent directly to this graduate program (items 3 through 6):

An official GRADUATE SCHOOL APPLICATION (available on-line at the Graduate School Admissions and Program Information Portal. Applicants will be asked to upload the following items: Resume, Career Goals Statement (Describe your professional goals upon completion of a doctorate in Counselor Education. How do you see your professional interests matching with those of the Counselor Education faculty at PSU?), & Autobiographical Statement (relative to your objectives in pursuing doctoral work. This essay provides you with an opportunity to supplement the other information available to the admissions committee. The statement should cover: a. Personal information and background relevant to doctoral work in counselor education. b. To the extent that plans are formulated, the kinds of positions you hope to obtain after completing doctoral work. c. The reasons for selecting such positions. d. Strengths and weaknesses and special needs in relation to previous training and future goals.). These essays should be no more than two pages in length, single-spaced.

Official transcripts Two original sets of all undergraduate and graduate work completed. (If you have attended Penn State previously, you can order Penn State transcripts here.) If you are currently obtaining a degree we will need another set of transcripts showing degree transferal when you graduate. International students will need to provide attested graduation certificates/diplomas and transcripts in English and native language.

Three letters of recommendation concerning the applicant's academic and professional abilities and potential are required. These letters may be mailed or emailed (cma18@psu.edu) directly to the program by the writer OR submitted along with other materials by the applicant. If they are sent by the applicant, the envelopes must be sealed and signed by the writer. No extra forms are required.
- GRE Test Results (PSU Institution Code: 2660 and Department Code: 3802). The applicant must submit the official results from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) to the Counselor Education Program. Advanced subject results are optional. The Educational Testing Service, Rosedale Road, Princeton, New Jersey 08542,can provide information about testing centers and dates, or check the GRE website. Applications are considered incomplete without GRE scores. To insure that the scores will reach us in time for consideration of your application, please schedule the exam no later than October 15. Test scores that are more than five (5) years old will not be accepted.
- TOEFL Test Scores (if applicable) (PSU Institution Code: 2660 and our Department Code: 99). International applicants whose first language is not English or who have not received a baccalaureate or master's degree from an institution in which the language of instruction is English must submit a TOEFL score of 550 (paper test), a score of 213 (computer-based test), a total score of 80 with a 19 on the speaking section (internet-based test), or a minimum composite score of 6.5 on the IELTS.
**Please note that we will NOT review late applications. We will only review applications postmarked by December 15th.
