Research Interests

My research and scholarly interests primarily focus on the contribution of school-family-community collaborations toward improving learning and mental health outcomes for youth. This program of research, which is grounded in capital and agency theories, specifically examines how counselors capitalize on the combined assets of multiple professions and families to generate innovative approaches for addressing nonacademic barriers to learning such as poverty and emotional and behavioral issues. Current research studies are working to better understand parental agency in schools and mental health agencies, address barriers to collaboration between school and community systems, and use social network analysis to examine interprofessional networks.

Research Collaboration Opportunities

Students, faculty, practitioners, family members, and youth are welcome to contact me with their ideas/needs for research projects and interventions related to schools, families, and communities, expanded school mental health, or families. Independent study and research lab experiences are generally available every semester.
