Felicia Wilkins Turner

Dr. Felicia Wilkins Turner is the new Research Associate for the American Indian Leadership Program (AILP) and the Center for the Study of Leadership in American Indian Education. She is an enrolled member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. She earned her master’s and doctoral degrees in Educational Administration through the AILP at Penn State, where she served as a graduate assistant to former AILP Directors, Dr.Grayson Noley and G. Mike Charleston. She also participated in various activities sponsored by the AILP program.
“The AILP has been a major factor in the success of my career in education. I am very honored to be back working with AILP Director, Dr. Faircloth, and contributing to the ongoing success of the AILP Program” states Turner.
Dr. Turner brings with her more than 20 years of professional experiences with a demonstrated record of accomplishments in research, teaching,
leadership, and administration. Prior to coming to Penn State she was Principal Investigator and Director of a 1.9 million dollar National Institute of Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDDR) grant from the U.S. Department of Education. As PI and project director, she supervised two doctoral students and a staff of approximately 35. Her research: Native Americans with Disabilities in four (4) Tribes in Connecticut and Rhode Island, examined quality of life issues in several areas for tribal members with disabilities. Her team presented the research to several educational organizations including American Education Research Association(AERA) and North Eastern Research Association, (NERA).
