Travel Grant Instructions and Application

In the interest of furthering the professional development of our CSA students, we strongly encourage student involvement in the organizations that advance knowledge, service, and personal development in the organizations that advance knowledge, service, and personal develpment in the field of student affairs. Please become actively engaged in ACPA and/or NASPA and the concomitant regional groups. Additionally, there are organizations representing our colleagues in housing, student leadership, judicial affairs, and important diversity groups within the aforementioned groups. A Travel Grant Application must be completed and submitted to Trudi Haupt, the CSA staff assistant, at lease one month prior to travel. Financial assistance is available to CSA students for the following priorities:

  1. graduate student presentations and/or acting involvement with the formal leadership of organizations at regional and national levels. This includes co-presenting or supporting faculty presentations.
  2. graduate students engaged in support of a conference, e.g., working with career services or providing important logistical support and other volunteer efforts.
  3. graduate students attending their first national or regional conference.

Please note that funds are limited; students are expected to combine travel and lodging arrangements with their fellow participants in order to reduce expenses. In the event of multiple requests, commitments will be made on the basis of the above priorities and on a "first come" basis.

If you want your airfare to be part of your reimbursement, you must book through one of the following Penn State approved vendors:

  • Penn State Travel Services (865-0395)
  • Center for Travel (238-4987)
  • e-TravCo Travel (238-6000)

Our preferred vendor is Penn State Travel Services. However, if you check with one of the above services and feel like the ticket price is too high, you can then (and only then) look at other on-line services (travelocity, hotwire.com, etc.) for other fares. If you have the quote from the PSU approved vendor and then buy a cheaper ticket through another service, PSU will reimburse. If you do not go through a Penn State approved vendor first, PSU will not reimburse.

CSA students should contact the CSA staff assistant, Susan Bass, for additional information.
