Admissions and Financial Aid

No single criterion stands as an adequate forecaster of success in graduate work. Applicants are evaluated on the following criteria:

• undergraduate junior-senior grade-point average;
• grade-point average in any graduate work;
• performance on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) (combined verbal, quantitative, and analytical score) or performance on a comparable exam such as the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT), Law School Admission Test (LSAT), etc.
• For master's students only: 

  Performance on any of the above or performance on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT);

• professional and academic references; and
• a written essay.

Most applicants have a previous degree in a professional field, in the social or natural sciences, or in the humanities. The successful applicant's academic and professional references will attest to his/her academic potential. Prospective applicants should also be aware that a separate admission application must be made to the Graduate School.

Admission Deadlines

For fall admission: January 1 for international applicants and those wishing to be considered for Graduate Fellowships, or February 1 all other applicants

For spring admission: September 15

Admission Requirements

• Completed electronic Graduate School Application.
• Nonrefundable application fee
• Graduate Record Examination (GRE) combined verbal and quantitative score or Miller Analogies Test (MAT) score.
• Two official transcripts from each institution attended (undergraduate and graduate).
• A written essay discussing professional goals and how, in light of strengths possessed, the study of higher education will bring the applicant in the realization of those goals.
• Resume.
• Four letters of recommendation.
• All international applicants whose first language is not English or who have not received baccalaureate or master's degrees from an institution in which the language of instruction is English must take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) examination. A TOEFL score of 550 on the paper-based test or a score of 213 on the computer-based test, or a total score of 80 with a 20 on the speaking section for the internet-based test is required for admission.
