Penn State Welcomes 2008–09 Humphrey Fellows

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Fourteen professionals from around the world have arrived at Penn State to begin their yearlong participation in the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program.
The Humphrey Fellowship Program was established in 1978 by President Jimmy Carter to honor the late vice president Hubert H. Humphrey. It is a one-year non-degree program of combined academic and professional development opportunities. The program brings accomplished mid-career professionals from specific countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Europe, and Eurasia to selected universities in the United States for public service, advanced study, professional training, and work-related experiences.
Penn State has hosted Humphrey fellows since the program started three decades ago; the College of Education is the University’s administrative home of the program. Leila Bradaschia is the program's director.
On most Wednesday evenings between September 17 and November 19, the Humphrey scholars are making presentations about their countries. Everyone is invited. The talks are held at 221 Chambers Building, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
