Professional Development for Adult Educators
Professional Development for Adult Educators
In 2011, the Division of Adult Education (PA Department of Education) invested in the establishment of a new statewide Professional Development System for adult educators. As a partner in that system, the Professional Development System Course Management Project oversees the content and delivery of professional development activities to ensure that they reflect what research has found to be most effective in preparing adult educators to teach basic skills in multiple contexts that are relevant to adult students' goals. The project also coordinates and tracks professional development activities. A second project, the Content Area Expert Project, supports the Course Management Project through the work of content area experts who identify, vet, develop, and facilitate professional development activities in the areas of reading, writing, math, teaching effectiveness, ESL, assessment, and workforce development. Both projects are involved in a comprehensive statewide evaluation of professional development.
