Fall 2010 Proseminar Series

This presentation will describe prevailing theoretical models, challenges, and strategies to studying the implementation and dissemination of quality improvement practices within state mental health systems serving youth and families. Studies within New York State’s outpatient mental health system will be highlighted. Quality improvement in state systems require attention to multiple dynamic levels of change: state policy, agency structure and financing, staff team organizational context, and parent and youth factors. Findings from studies targeting change processes at one or more of these levels will be described.

Dr. Kimberly Hoagwood, Ph.D., is Professor of Clinical Psychology in Psychiatry at Columbia University and Director of Youth Services Research within the New York State Office of Mental Health. She also directs the Child and Family Services Research Unit within the Division of Mental Health Services and Policy Research at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. Among Dr. Hoagwood’s awards are the Outstanding Scholar in Education Award from the University of Maryland and the American Psychiatric Association’s Distinguished Contribution Award in School Psychology. She is the author of over 100 papers and co-editor of five books on topics relevant to community-based services for children and families.
