University Park, Pa.—The College of Education invites you and your family to “Education Night with the Spikes” on Friday, July 22. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Students, alumni, faculty and staff of the Penn State community are encouraged to come out to the game as the State College Spikes take on the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.

A limited number of tickets are available in the College of Education section for a discounted rate of $10.00 each and can be purchased at www.ed.psu.edu/spikes/

The Spikes, an affiliate team of the Pittsburgh Pirates, will be honoring the 40th anniversary of the Pirates’ 1971 World Series Championship by wearing jerseys that resemble those of the ’71 team. Throughout the game, fans can bid on their favorite players’ jerseys and winning bidders will receive their game-worn jersey autographed and delivered to them by the players. All proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit State College and Bellefonte Little League organizations.

Other promotions this evening include firework night, a fireworks show immediately following the game, and kids run the bases, which allows all kids 12 and under to run the bases after the game.

“It’s a nice way for faculty members and alumni to get together for a night of fun,” said Phil Hoy, assistant director of alumni relations for the College of Education. This is the College of Education’s fifth year in a row hosting a night out with the Spikes.
