Erin Elizabeth Twerdok Named Fall 2007 Penn State College of Education Student Marshal

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State College of Education is proud to announce its fall 2007 student marshal, Erin Elizabeth Twerdok. Twerdok will be recognized at the Penn State Undergraduate Commencement on Saturday, Dec. 22, at 12:30 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center on Penn State’s University Park campus.
Twerdok was born in New Britain, Conn. and raised in Upper St. Clair, Pittsburgh. She graduated as valedictorian from Upper St. Clair High School. She is majoring in elementary and kindergarten education and completing her student teaching practicum in a 4th-grade classroom at Jefferson Elementary School in Jefferson Hills, Pa., with the assistance of her student teaching supervisor Catherine Cramer.
“My time at Penn State has been wonderful,” said Twerdok. “Since I am graduating early and am doing my student teaching at the West Jefferson School District in Pittsburgh, I only spent three years in State College, which is the only regret I have. The faculty and staff at Penn State have been wonderful, especially my honors advisors. I really enjoyed my time at Penn State and look forward to coming back for graduation.”
In addition to her 3.9 grade-point average, Twerdok boasts several honors and awards received during her time at Penn State, including Dean’s List Honors, Evan Pugh Scholar, National Scholars Honors Society, President’s Freshman Award, and Schreyer Scholar.
Twerdok is also active in her community, volunteering as a classroom teacher at Faith Lutheran Church, a library intern and reading program instructor at the Upper St. Clair Library, secretary of the South Halls Residence Association at Penn State, and a teacher’s instructor at Eisenhower Elementary School in the Upper St. Clair School District. While at Penn State, Twerdok also danced with Volé, the Penn State Ballet Club.
Twerdok has selected Jacqueline Edmondson, associate dean for teacher education and undergraduate programs, to escort her at commencement as the College’s faculty marshal.
After graduation, Twerdok plans to seek a full-time teaching position in Pittsburgh and eventually pursue a master’s degree in education.
