Objective 1 - Academic Standards

Objective 1 - Academic standards

Commendations:

Mercer: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3: CIPs 43.999, 52.0404 great job, use as outstanding programs.

1.1 Identify specific PA academic standards or anchor assessments (i.e., math, English, science) that are integrated into the program.

Berks: the Berks CTC curriculum model for learning guides is exemplary and is worthy of adoption as a state-wide model due to its multi dimensional approach to high-quality, competency-based instructional practices. Incorporating all of the components required of chapter 339 and Perkins IV into a workable student-centered learning tool and assessment instrument into a single document is commendable.

Berks: The practice of requiring twice quarterly a five-paragraph essay in PSSA format should be replicated by other CTCs and districts. This assignment reinforces the positive impact that career and technical education can have on academic achievement.

Butler: CIP 12.0401, Cosmetology. This program has done an exemplary job incorporating academic standards in math, reading, science and corresponding assessment anchors into the curriculum, and has developed a crosswalk identifying the technical skills that integrate with the academic standards. The numbers of academic hours (math – 160, reading- 100, science- 80) that are integrated within the technical skill areas have also been identified.

ECAT: Computer Systems Networking and Telecommunications has excellent crosswalk developed of academic standards in math and language arts with technical competencies.

GJR: CIP 12.0508, Institutional Food Worker. The integration of the textbook Math Workbook for Food Service/Lodging in this program is commendable. The crosswalk of math, science, language arts, and Career Education and Work Standards with the competencies is well designed.

GJR: Student interviews demonstrated how math, reading, and other academic standards are integrated into their CTE programs.

GJR: The Academic Integration "Boot Camp" which is held in the summers is unique and commendable and teaches instructors how to integrate these standards into their lesson plans. Teachers are paid to attend this “Boot Camp” program.

Franklin: ALL CIPs, with the exception of CIP 52.0203, logistics and materials management, have a clear, concise format for standards integration.

Mercer: ALL CIPs: Excellent crosswalk. In addition to math, English, and science, all standards or anchors are cross-walked to the planned course.

MBIT: (1.1 & 1.3): Program task lists were cross-walked to the PA Academic Standards and the PA Career Education and Work standards. Many programs have implemented national certification credentials. (See “assign standards” tab in the following Microsoft Excel Documents: Commercial Art & Design and Computers & Information Technology Crosswalks)

MBIT: A good example of academic integration was found in the drafting program where students were observed creating a 3-D model of a Roman architectural project; later the project is expanded to explore modern architecture. Students were actively engaged and able to articulate the elements of the architecture incorporated within the project.

1.3 Identify specific Pennsylvania Career Education and Work standards that are integrated into the program.

GJR: CIP 12.0508, Institutional Food Worker. The crosswalk of math, science, language arts, and Career Education and Work Standards with the competencies is well designed.

Mercer: All CIPs: Portfolio development activity calendar. (See Senior Portfolio Development Activities Calendar)

Mercer: CIP 19.0799, the career day is an excellent program for career awareness promotion.
