Commendations

MBIT: The review team identified the following programs as noteworthy:
• Institutional Food Worker, 15.0508. Each of the two culinary instructors has an instructional aide to assist them in the classroom, dining room, and kitchen.
• Drafting and Design Technology, 15.1301. An instructional assistant was observed circulating between students working on an AutoCAD project.
• Engineering related Tech., 15.5999. An instructional aide was observed working with students in the lab/classroom.
• Child Care, 19.0707. An instructional aide is available full time to assist the instructor.
• Auto body tech., 47.0603/ Am instructional aide was observed working with students in the lab/classroom.
• Auto tech, 47.0604. Two instructional aides were available to work with students in the lab/classroom.
• Welding, 48.0508. An instructional aide was assigned to assist in classroom instruction.

24.1: Identify pullout opportunities for accommodation, remediation, or enrichment (professionals, support staff or experiences outside the classroom that contribute to the program).

Mercer: CIP 470606 and 47.0606 and 48.0599 use Reading Academy to support student competency. CIPS 47.0605 a d 47.0604 and 48.0599 and 11.0901 and 19.0799 and 46.0401: the new math support program is very admirable and timely. Pilot program provides for PSSA math support. CIP 46.0201 the Pre-assessment and Reading/Math Academy Programs are a good attempt to assist in the academic remediation of students.

24.2: Identify push-in services (other professionals or support staff come into the classroom and reinforce instruction) for accommodation, remediation, or enrichment.

Franklin: ALL CIPs: the BEST program is an excellent community partnership that utilizes key personnel directors and human resource specialists to provide additional resources for co-op students. All CIPs: The Career Day Program is an excellent example of a community partnership.  (We have a note to leave out these pages because there are individual names on most of the pgs. In this section.

Butler: CIP 12.0508, Institutional Foods. There are two fulltime culinary arts instructional aides that work within the program. They are working towards their instructional certificates in this program area and enhance the delivery of the instruction. CIP 15.1301, Drafting Design and Technology and 48.0501, Machine Tool Technology/ Machinist. These programs record the times and the push-in services or support staff who come into the classroom to reinforce instruction.

Butler: 24.1/24.2: CIP 43.9999 and CIP 12.0401, Cosmetology. Multiple instructional activities are provided to accommodate, remediate and enrich the program.

ECAT: 24.1/24.2, all CIPs. All new students (not mini’s or Penn State) are required to take placement tests. According to test score results, students are assigned remediation opportunities. In addition, many opportunities are provided for students to participate in enrichment opportunities such as expanded learning opportunities program, job shadowing, and internships. Most programs are using smart boards and interactive software.

GJR: 24.1/24.2: Evidence exists of very extensive pull-out/push-in opportunities for students. For CIP 12.0508, Institutional Food Worker, a member of the OAC (retired German baker) provides regular demonstrations to students. In addition the program’s instructor utilizes guest speakers from the Pittsburgh Culinary Institute.

Mercer: CIP 12.0508 Community resources are utilized to provide students with up to date industry information and safety issues. 24.1/24.2: Appears to be ample support for student who need assistance.
