Commendations
7.1 Provide assurance that students have the appropriate competencies in mathematics, science, and English prior to entrance into the program.
ECAT: Cooperation of the sending districts and ECAT in identifying students with appropriate level of math, science, and English, along with placement of the student in the program, is a formal part of the selection process.
GJR: During the summer and weekly throughout the school year, orientation is held for prospective CTE students. The orientation includes an interest inventory, 4Sight (pre-PSSA) test which assesses small gains, tutoring, baseline writing, and behavior role playing. In addition, the guidance staff meets to discuss career objective forms. Students enroll in CTE programs, if interested, and are able to tour the CTE program area the Friday before classes begin. In addition, summer instruction includes reading and math remediation, college programs, academic make-up potential, and exploratory CTE experience (one-week rotation in each of the six programs).
Franklin: FCCTC has taken a leadership role by providing a detailed "course catalog" that identifies the recommended academic proficiency required for each CIP, the state or national certifications provided by the CIP, and the post secondary credits available through the articulation program.
Mercer: CIP 19.0799 Support services provide information and support to aid in academic success of students.
SUN: All CIPs. The use of a math diagnostic program provides relevance to all programs. (pg. 10 of THIS PDF DOCUMENT is an overview of their math program)
SUN: ALL CIPs. Integration of math and reading standards using the SUN CTE teachers net is commendable and supportive of the standards. (pg. 5 of THIS PDF DOCUMENT shows an example of reading standards being integrated into their welding program)
7.2 Provide assurance that subsequent instruction in these academic areas is appropriate to each student’s chosen area of occupational training.
Mercer: CIP 12.0508 Academic issues are met through pull out programs in math and reading. Math and reading are incorporated as part of the Culinary Arts curriculum. CIP 17.0799 students are required to complete a variety of writing assignments for their CDA certification. Skills are addressed in class.
SUN: CIP 51.0601. Student transcript supplied indicates academic rigor that supports the Dental Assisting Program (We have a transcript from a Welding student on pgs. 4-5 of THIS PDF DOCUMENT, nothing about it shows Dental Assisting or academic rigor for that matter)
