Requesting School/School District Access for Research Graduate Students
Student-Initiated
Many graduate students base dissertation topics on their current work, ongoing research with faculty, or personal interests. In these instances, the purpose of the research is generally pre-determined and districts are selected based on the specifics of the study. While the findings of the study may prove to be very meaningful to the participants, the schools/school districts have minimal input to the purpose and design. It is important, therefore, that a comprehensive overview of the study be forwarded to potential participants. This overview should include the following items:
- Title for research
- Background
- Purpose statement and research questions
- Summary of design and methodology
- Must include reference to Research Protections/Institutional Review Board processes
- Requirements for participation
- Compensation (if applicable)
- Name and contact information for researcher and dissertation chairperson
An electronic file of this information should be forwarded to Jillian Reese, PSSC Associate Director and June Kim, PSSC Research Technician.
Once the overview has been received and reviewed, PSSC will send an electronic request to all current members. The request will include a brief introduction from the PSSC, a copy of the research overview, a response process for interested members, and a deadline previously determined by the graduate student and PSSC. The graduate student researcher will coordinate the final selection of participants.
PSSC asks that we be notified of any formal agreements made as the result of this process so that we can maintain a database of ongoing and completed research projects.
