Nurse Aide Training: Teaching the Educator Workshop

Who May Attend?


According to the Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services requirements, the Primary Instructor must:

  • Be a Registered Nurse with two years of nursing experience as an RN.

  • Have at least one year of RN nursing experience in a facility licensed as long-term care. * 

  • Complete a "Nurse Aide Training: Teaching the Educator" Program approved by the State, or contact a PDE representative for verification of teaching competency. ** 


The Assistant Instructor must:

  • Be a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse with two years of nursing experience as an RN/LPN.

  • Have at least one year of RN/LPN nursing experience in a facility licensed as long-term care. *

  • Complete a "Nurse Aide Training: Teaching the Educator" Program approved by the State, or contact a PDE representative for verification of teaching competency. **


* Long-term care experience must include a minimum of 200 hours within a one-year time frame.

** Teaching competence is interpreted as:

  1. A Registered Nurse with a current teaching certificate, issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to teach secondary students enrolled in a nursing assistant or health assisting program, or

  2. Evidence of being an instructor in an approved practical or professional school of nursing. Verification will exempt attendance from day 1 and 2 of the workshop.

The "Nurse Aide Training: Teaching the Educator Workshop" is highly interactive. Participants are expected to cooperate in group activities and are encouraged to share their experiences and successes with their peers.
