Phil Scott, Ph.D

 

Phil ScottPhil Scott is Professor of Physics Education and Director of the Centre for Studies in Science and Mathematics Education (CSSME) at the University of Leeds (UK). Phil Scott taught physics/science in high schools for 15 years.  Current interests lie in planning and evaluating approaches to teaching physics conceptual knowledge, focussing in particular on the patterns of talk in the classroom. He is co-editor of Studies in Science Education and a Board Member of the National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST).  Away from physics education, Phil is a lifelong fan of Sunderland Football Club and a keen mountain biker.

His talk, "Teaching Science Concepts: A Neglected Art," was given on October 20, 2009.
