Health Occupations Education

Health Occupations has three programs of interest to healthcare professionals responsible for the education and training of staff, students and co-workers.

The Health Occupations Education option within the Workforce Education and Development program is a BS degree specifically designed for persons desiring to make the transition from "clinician" to educator and obtain teacher certification.  The option requires previous completion of a professional program and a license in nursing or other allied health area such as dental hygiene, radiology, or respiratory therapy.  This program includes specialty courses in classroom management, assessment, curriculum development, and career guidance as well as several capstone courses specifically designed for healthcare educators.

The Nurse Aide "Teaching the Educator" program is specifically designed in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Department of Education for nurses in long-term care settings who are responsible for the education of nurse aides or other multi-skilled entry level health care providers.  This three day course leads to a certificate meeting the requirements of Public Law 100-203, Omnibus reconciliation Act (OBRA) or 1987, 1989, and 1990.  This course is offered each month and by appointment in various locations throughout Pennsylvania.  For more information please contact Kim Germino at (814) 865-8363.
