Dr. Stephanie Serriere is Assistant Professor of Education, Language, Culture and Society. At the undergraduate level, she teaches elementary social studies. At the graduate level, she offers courses civic engagement, service-learning, democracy and education, and teacher inquiry. Prior, Dr. Serriere taught in elementary classrooms in Italy, Indiana, and India.

Her current multi-year research project investigates the processes and products of youth civic engagement at a local elementary school. Dr. Serriere is interested in the way youth create and define meaningful engagement (i.e. student voice) as well as the ways in which teachers support youth voice and engagement in the younger years.

Dr. Serriere is an active member of the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) and the American Educational Research Association (AERA). She serves as the chair-elect for the Social Studies Research Special Interest Group (SIG). Dr. Serriere’s publications are featured in those organizations’ associated journals such as Theory & Research in Social Education (TRSE), Social Studies and the Young Learner (SSYL), and American Educational Research Journal (AERJ).
