Welcome to our secondary English Professional Development School website. Our collaboration between State College Area School District (SCASD) and the Penn State College of Education (PSU) is a year-long, entirely school-based, teacher education program. We advocate an inquiry model for classroom instruction, professional development, and educational research. Together, we hope to construct and share knowledge about language, literacy, learning, and teaching as they function to create our identities, relationships, and values in school and society. Our English PDS would not be possible without the sustained efforts and support of many SCASD and PSU participants. Special thanks to Sandra Wyngaard, SCASD English Department Chair, who helped us begin our PDS program in 1997, and to Carol Paul, Mary Nasatka, Chris Merritt, Jeff King, and Marianne Bowers who have served as school district PDS Directors. Additional key supporters have included Marcia Kramer and Pam Francis, Chris Merritt and Marybeth Irvin, as SCASD Assoiciate Principals for Curriculum past and present, and past Superintendent of Schools, Patricia Best, and current Superintendent Richard Mextorf. Also instrumental in sustaining our institutional collaboration since 1995 to the present were Josephine Pirrone, prior SCASD English Department Chair, Curriculum and Instruction Department Chairs Peter Rubba, Murry Nelson, and Greg Kelly, and College of Education Deans Rodney Reed and David Monk.
