Research Goal 1.

The goal of research serves:
  • To develop a sound conceptual, interdisciplinary research base for guiding practice and policy. This has resulted in the development of a cohort of researchers, graduate students, and affiliate faculty who focus on research in family literacy.

  • To identify research issues in consultation with practitioners and researchers. This has resulted in a National Family Literacy Research Agenda. This agenda brings focus to the work of the Goodling Institute and guides research nationally.

  • To provide a centralized link for ongoing research in family literacy based on the research agenda.  This has led the Goodling Institute to conduct and compile research studies with a clear plan of research that is moving the field of family literacy forward. This research includes not only studies funded by the Goodling Institute but also other research submitted from the field..

  • To review diverse publications resulting in an Annotated Bibliography intended to advance the work of all those involved with family literacy. The annotated bibliography is a document that synthesizes current research and writings on practices and theory directly affecting family literacy programs.

  • To support graduate students through assistantships to focus on family literacy research. The support encourages development of researchers in family literacy.
