Dr. Elisabeth L. Grinder is an early childhood specialist at the Institute for the Study of Adult Literacy. Dr. Grinder received her Ph.D. in 1994 in Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis in early childhood education, from The Pennsylvania State University. She joined the Institute in 2002 but has been working with family literacy programs since 1997. Dr. Grinder’s work with family literacy programs includes providing support in the areas of early childhood assessment and evaluations; conducting assessment trainings; and development of training materials. In the past, she was involved in the development of the Family Literacy Standards, the Indicators of Program Quality, Policy statements for the Bureau of ABLE, and the self-assessment and monitoring tools for the early childhood, parenting education, and parent-child interactive literacy components of family literacy programs.
Dr. Grinder, through the Goodling Institute for Research in Family Literacy, is also Professional Development Coordinator for the Lancaster-Lebanon IU #13 Early Reading First Program. This work involves designing and conducting professional development opportunities for the teachers and paraprofessionals in the program.
