Drucie joined the Institute in 2000; prior to that she worked for five years as faculty for the Indiana University of Pennsylvania's Department of Professional Studies in Education. Drucie was director of the Urban Scholars Institute and CCAC/IUP program during the same period, also at IUP. She is a doctoral candidate Curriculum and Instruction—Language and Literacy at Penn State University.
Here at ISAL, Drucie works with the Family Literacy Statewide Evaluation Project and Family Literacy Management Team. She has been responsible for a number of projects including those in health family literacy, after school programs, and case studies of family literacy programs. Drucie is part of the National Institute for Literacy (NIFL) LINCs initiative, vetting research- and evidence-based resources for Basic Skills for inclusion on the NIFL website, which will be free to practitioners. She is an independent evaluator for the Tuscarora Intermediate Unit Even Start program. In 2007, she took responsibility for leading a statewide practitioner action research project for program improvement. Additionally, she is active with the Goodling Institute for Research in Family Literacy.
Drucie's main areas of interest include several aspects of adult and family literacy, especially social capital and parent involvement; practitioner action research; transformative learning; and trauma and learning.
