WELES

The World Wide Web (WWW) is a new source of information available in and to the classroom. Its existence has gained such momentum, that its omniprescence in everyday life should have a similar level of impact as television, but qualitatively different purpose. While television for the general populace is a source of perhaps 75% entertainment and 25% information and education, the WWW provides the opposite.

Surfing the WWW can be a frustrating experience. To ease frustration, we have created the "Use the Web" model to provide an overall conceptualization of the World Wide Web and how it can be used with current classroom teaching strategies.

Within the "Use the Web" Model, you will see six Web-Enhanced Learning Environment Stretegies (WELES) offered: Inqusitory Presentation, Collaborative Instruction, Expository Presentation, Generative Learning, Anchored Instruction, and Problem-based learning. These WELES are based on contemporary learning theory and how people learn and gain an understanding of the resources offered by the Web.

The lesson plan format provided to support WELES includes several components Each is critical in determining the best way to use Web resources to enhance the learning environment. This lesson plan text  describes a suggested format for documenting lesson plans using web resources.

The lesson plan tutorial  provides a step by step description of how to complete the suggested lesson plan format.

The example lesson plan format is an example of a science lesson plan documented using the suggested lesson plan format.

The lesson plan shell is a blank copy of the lesson plan format.

In the final section of WELES there are four summary tables:
