Careers in Rehabilitation

The need for qualified rehabilitation professionals is expected to continue for a number of reasons.  “Many of the social and physical barriers that once restricted people with disabilities have been overcome.  Technology has provided a wealth of new options.  More and more professional leadership and guidance is needed—often on a one-to-one basis—so that people with disabilities can take advantage of these new opportunities.  In addition, career professionals predict that the demand for professionals in this field will continue to rise as the demand for its services grows and many of today’s vocational rehabilitation professionals retire.”  (Careers in Vocational Rehabilitation, n .d., p. 7).

It has been pointed out that rehabilitation is a very broad field and it follows that professional development can proceed in many directions.  It is understood that a great many students will be undecided about the specific avenue they wish to pursue.

Students desiring additional information relating to career opportunities in the rehabilitation field are encouraged to direct their questions to the Professor-in-Charge of Rehabilitation Programs or an academic advisor within the program at 327 CEDAR Building.  Students can also go to www.rehabjobs.org for additional information about career options in the field of rehabilitation or go to Career Services (http://www.sa.psu.edu/career/) to meet with a career counselor.
