American Center for the Study of Distance Education
The American Center for the Study of Distance Education (ACSDE) helps educators meet the challenges of an educational environment significantly influenced by new technologies and the innovative pedagogical approaches they support. ACSDE serves the educational community through research, publications, resources, professional development activities, and evaluation services related to all forms of distance education.

Center for the Study of Higher Education
One of the oldest research centers in the nation dedicated to the study of higher education. The Center primarily deals with externally, funded projects that impact higher education policy and practice at the campus, state, national, and international levels.

Goodling Institute for Research in Family Literacy
The Goodling Institute for Research in Family Literacy was established in July 2001 with a one-time federal appropriation to honor retiring Congressman Bill Goodling for his work in family literacy. The Institute's mission is to improve family literacy education through research and its application to practice and professional development. Further, the Institute provides national leadership to support and maintain high quality, integrated programs for families with educational needs.


Institute for Research in Training and Development
The Institute for Research in Training and Development (IRTD) is a research group of the Department of Learning & Performance Systems within Penn State's College of Education . The IRTD also is affiliated with Penn State Outreach through Penn State's Workforce Education & Development Initiative.


Institute for the Study of Adult Literacy

Established in 1985, the Institute for the Study of Adult Literacy's mission is to advance the field of literacy through collaborative research, teaching, and outreach to improve practice, expand access to high quality education, and enrich the lives of individuals and families. The Institute's externally funded grants and contracts focus on workplace, family, and health literacy as well as on public scholarship and community service.

Pennsylvania Leadership Development Center
Sponsored by the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators, Pennsylvania School Study Council, and the Duquesne University School of Education, the Pennsylvania Leadership Development Center was formed in 1995 to offer professional growth opportunities for educational leaders in Pennsylvania.  Since 2002, PLDC has collaborated with Dr. Charles Schwahn to produce thirteen (13) leadership development modules focusing on the strategic leadership framework identified in Schwahn's highly successful book "Total Leaders."

Vocational Education Professional Personnel Development Center
Associated with two Penn State University academic units--the Workforce Education and Development Program and the Agricultural and Extension Education Department, the PPDC offers career development opportunities for Pennsylvania citizens who wish to teach occupational or technical training programs. The Center provides teacher preparation, on-line resources, and in-service programs that prepare Pennsylvanians to meet professional standards as career and technical educators.
