Summer College Opportunity Program in Education

The Summer College Opportunity Program in Education (S.C.O.P.E) is a program under the College of Education at The Pennsylvania State University. The program provides current second year (10th grade) high school students from diverse backgrounds with an opportunity to experience college course work, college life, and learn about careers in the education field. 

The Summer 2024 program will run in its entirety July 1st through July 26th. S.C.O.P.E. is an intensive academic experience that will require students to participate in various college preparatory courses over the four-week period. Students will also be introduced to various opportunities in the field of education. Students will engage in a research and writing course for which they will receive one college credit upon completion.

The Office of Education and Social Equity in the College of Education with kind contributions of donors will cover program expenses.

To be eligible for S.C.O.P.E., a student must meet the following criteria:

• Be from a background traditionally underrepresented in the field of education (Priority will be given to students from lower SES families who will be first generation college bound learners)
• Be a current second year (10th grade) students during the 2023-2024 academic year, and matriculating in the 11th grade for 2024-2025 academic year
• Be enrolled in a college-prep curriculum
• Be interested in Education careers (i.e. teaching, counseling, rehabilitation and human services, special education, vocational education, education policy, etc.)
• Have a high school cumulative grade-point-average of 3.00 or better
• Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Eligible students must be nominated by a school or organization official and complete the enclosed application.
