Secondary Education Student Teaching
For the student teaching experience, student teachers spend fifteen weeks teaching full-time in classrooms. Student teachers are expected to devote their full attention to the student teaching experience and are supported in this endeavor by an experienced mentor teacher and a full-time university supervisor.
Student teaching opportunities are offered in various locations throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Assignment to student teaching centers in Pennsylvania is typically determined by the discipline in which the teacher candidate is seeking certification. In addition, students may opt to complete the full student teaching experience at the Pierre Indian Learning Center in Pierre, South Dakota. We also offer a short-term student teaching abroad opportunity. Student teachers complete 12 weeks of full-time teaching in Pennsylvania, followed by 5 to 7 weeks student teaching at an international site. English/Communications majors may also apply to spend a full year student teaching in a professional development school partnership in State College. More information on locations is provided below.
